My first fish, but sans keys.  The key idea came later— at first I screwed each key onto the wood backgrounds, but soon found more creative possibilities soldering the keys to each other.  Currently, I prefer soldering the keys to metal backgrounds which I decorate with patinas.  The fish scales are sometimes patinated.  Sometimes my soldering is neat, sometimes “goopy” depending on the personality of the fish.

Why fish?  Why keys?  Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time because “junk art” runs in my veins.  House keys and other keys figure in other kinds of bas reliefs and sculptures that I make and there is usually a fish in progress in my studio at any given time.  They are creative and they represent the worthiness of recycling.

This fish family was first exhibited in the Crest Hardware 2013 show in Brooklyn.
Now owned by Ronald McDonald Charities of the Capital Region and making the Ronald McDonald House a little bit cheerier.
